The Sammy Corporation was founded in 1975. It is a video game producer that also is known as a leader in creating pachinko machines, a Japanese casino game. As a video game producer, the Sammy Corporation has made games that are played all over the world. Having been in the business for many years, they are a leader in the field. Although the Sammy Corporation has made the majority of its fortune from the pachinko machines, they have enjoyed great profits from their merger with Sega in 2004. At the time of the merger, Sammy became the majority shareholder and named their chief executive, Hajime Satomi as the head of the new Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. It was thanks to their background in casino gaming machines that granted them the financial stability to seek such great investments.
This Japanese corporation has grown to hold its own in the American business world. In the spring of 2001 Sammy Entertainment Inc was born. This subsidiary to the Chicago based Sammy USA Corporation, located in Century City, CA, and was designed to create a powerful Hollywood presence. In March of 2005, Sammy Studios was formed in San Diego, CA. However this asset had in mind to focus more on the Japanese development instead of USA development. In 2007, they changed their name to High Moon Studios and then broke away from Sammy.
While the Sammy Corporation continues to produce pachinko machines, they have affected the gaming world. The Sammy Corporation has published games for many gaming consoles and handhelds; Xbox, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, Playstation, Playstation 2, Super NES, PC, and even arcade games. They believe that they are creating culture. In addition, considering the number of gamers out there that are able to enjoy great games thanks to the Sammy Corporation, they might be right.
